What are the new features of the micro: bit V2.2 model?

The BBC micro: bit was launched in 2016 and was a huge success globally, completely transforming the way children learned to use computers digitally. All the features that everyone loves about the micro: bit remained while some new ones were added. Note, the micro: bit v2.2 card is backwards compatible with other micro: bit cards, ecosystems and accessories. You no longer have to worry about replacing the equipment you have at your disposal.

We've highlighted some of the key differences between the card versions below:

New integrated speaker and microphone.

Memory has increased by 700% from 16KB to128KB RAM and from 256KB to 512KB flash, giving the device far greater capacity.

The CPU has been upgraded from a Cortex m0 at 16MHz to a Cortex m4 with a 64MHz floating point.

The gold-edged connectors feature small notches that allow for much easier prototyping with alligator clips that can't keep falling off.

The board is now capable of supplying 200mA to the accessories, Up to 90mA in the previous version of the board.

Greater input capability can be achieved with the touch sensor to accompany the two existing buttons.

Version 2 is now equipped with a power LED and can be turned off instead of having to remove the batteries.

Capable of supporting both artificial intelligence and machine learning.

the micro: Bit is super easy to use. Get Started doesn't require a lot of complicated peripherals: All you need is a PC or mobile device to program it on. To Get Started, you need:

Micro: bit and battery with 2 AAA batteries

A calculator, phone or tablet with internet access code editor to program your micro: bit

If you are using a computer, A USB cable to connect the micro: bit

To create and make projects with your micro: bit, some extra items that are great to have include headphones, alligator clip tips, and conductive materials such as aluminum foil and paper clips.

Once programmed, the micro: bit remains in flash memory and can be run whenever you want. So you can reprogram it when you want to try a different project, 1 program can be kept at a time.
